My name is Cat O Donohoe,
I started my career in makeup after studying a year of Art & Design when Makeup artistry first caught my attention. I loved the idea of a having a job that involved transforming people into characters, creating polished looks for fashion or making people feel beautiful on a special day for them.
I studied Makeup and Special effects in IADT and on finishing wanted to further my studies in Beauty makeup. I continued to The School of Makeup Artistry in Galway
where I became ITEC certified and began my Makeup Career in 2009.
Since then I've never had a dull moment, working in all areas of the job including Film, Theatre, Street performance, Fashion, Hair competitions, Beauty Retail and Education. The job is constantly evolving with new skills, techniques and technology to learn, it keeps it new and interesting!
I'm currently working for Mac Cosmetics in Galway. I began my career with Mac five years ago and since then have had an incredible journey learning new skills, spending time in the UK as a trainer for the brand to Assist Manager on counter to my current role as Retail Manager.
One of my favourite areas of the job is Education. I have been teaching in the School of Makeup for a few years and every day is different.
I love spending time with artists on their journey, and teaching skills I've picked up along the way, we all have something to teach each other in this industry! As well as creating beautiful makeups, we learn to get to know the person in the chair so we can create something that's unique to them. It's the best thing you'll learn as a makeup artist. :)
