When you have diagnosed your eye shape, look at your eyes to see which you see more off, under the brow area or the moving part of your eyelid. You can then begin to balance your eye shape and make them appear to be more even. Light colours will attract attention to an area and make them look bigger, darker matt shades will make the area appear smaller and take away attention from the area.
I always advise clients to mix both matt and shimmer textures on their eyes, as this will give a good contrast. It is very important to take care when applying shimmer texture eyeshadows as this texture tends to show up more lines around the eye area. I generally advise my mature clients to use matt shades, as they are more flattering, and keep the shimmer texture minimal, concentrating it on the centre of the eyelid, as this will open the eye more.
Always apply a base shadow initially when applying eye make-up. You can use a face powder or a matt beige tone, as a base. The base colour should not change the colour of the eyelid, its main purpose is to give a good canvas to apply the coloured eye shadows over. Build the colours gradually, taking care to put a small amount of product onto the brush, and flicking of any excess product from the brush, so as it will not spill on your face. If product does fall onto your face, try sweeping it away with a powder brush. If you have enough face powder on your face, it should sweep away easily. If it does not come away easily, do not apply foundation over it, instead clean the product away with a cotton bud, and then apply fresh foundation, otherwise you will give yourself the appearance of having very dark circles around your eyes. Good brushes will make the application of eyeshadow much easier. My favourite blending brush, is M.A.Cs 224 brush. Try to hold the brush as far back on the handle as possible and use light circular motions when applying the colour.
This will help to give a flawless finish. There are many types of eyeliner available on the market, gel, cream, liquid and pencil. For a naturel day look, I suggest using an eye shadow as eyeliner. This will give your eyes definition without being too harsh for daytime. To apply the eye shadow as eyeliner, use an angular precision brush, M.A.Cs 217 brush is one of my favourites. When applying shadow as eyeliner, hold the brush facing vertically, alongside your face and gently push the angular precision brush up along the lash line, this will give definition to your eyes and also make your lashes look fuller.
Do not bring the eyeliner all the way to the end of your eye as this will give your eyes a down turned appearance, instead stop the liner at your last lash, and flick it upwards to give a more elongated appearance to your eyes. There are many types of mascara, cake, which is generally used in theatre, cream, which is not as common anymore, as it is not waterproof. Liquid mascara is the most common, as this comes in all variations, volumizing, lengthing, waterproof, non - waterproof. Take your lashes in three sections when applying mascara.
Begin from the root of the outer section of your lashes, using zig zag motions, move the wand from the root to the tip of your lashes, then take the middle part of your lashes and do the same, working the mascara wand from the root of the lash to the tip, and finally take the inner section of your lashes, again using zig zag motions with the mascara wand bringing the wand from the root of the lash to the tip. This technique will give more volume and a naturel curl to your lashes. Always apply a second coat of mascara, for extra volume on your lashes.
